Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical safe and bespoke treatment to help men & women suffering from hair loss.  It is ideal for individuals with natural hair loss, alopecia, scarring and receding hairlines. It works through a process of depositing tiny dots of pigment into the outer layer of the scalp to disguises patches. It is carried out over three sessions to build up the density. Your first session is a consultation followed by building the foundation layer. A fortnight later your next course brings in the depth and colour. The procedure can take from 1 to 5 hours, depending on your specific needs.
The results usually last up to four years and we recommend you visit us again every two years for a top-up session.
Yes, The pigments used are carbon, water and alcohol, with no additives such as iron oxide which are in inks used for semi-permanent makeup and tattooing. The pigments only rest on the outer layer of the scalp.
SMP can be very realistic. It gives the resemblance of having a more densified head of hair.
Male pattern baldness is related to your genetics and hormones. It usually begins with a receding hairline and thinning of the hair on the crown. However, this is not the only reason for male hair loss. Other conditions include receding hairlines, alopecia, trichotillomania and cancer. We understand that hair loss can impact confidence and self-esteem, which is why we provide confidential appointments in a relaxed setting to help you feel comfortable.
Similarly to men, women can also experience female pattern baldness. This is usually due to genetics, but can be caused by pregnancy and ageing. However, the most common cause of hair loss in women tends to be anaemia and iron deficiency. Cancer, trichotillomania and alopecia can also be causes. Whatever the reason for your hair loss, our skilled team will help find the best possible solution.

It is useful if you can show us some photos so we can see your original hairline.  We will then gradually build up your look so you can get used to it.  We can even produce different hairline styles depending on the look you desire. As experienced hairdressers, we have the knowledge and skill to get the right hairline look for you.
Scalp MicroPigmentation is a specialist field which is not the same as tattooing.  We use different pigments, inks, needles and techniques to get the desired results.
Look out for more hairs than usual being left in your hairbrush after brushing your hair, or in the basin after washing your hair. Try parting your hair differently to see where the areas of thinning are, such as noticing an area of your hairline which is receding, a wider parting or a thinning crown.
Some medicines do have the side effect of hair loss or can cause your hair to thin. If you notice any side effects from taking your medication please talk to your GP.
Sometimes hair loss can be reversible, but this depends on what is causing your hair loss in the first place. Come in for a consultation and we will assess whether your hair loss is reversible or not.
Alopecia is a condition which has many variations and effects people differently. Sometimes people suffer from it over a short period of time, while others may suffer from it on an ongoing basis. It is a condition that causes small patches of hair to fall out. At first this may be unnoticeable, however if these patches connect, the hair loss may become more apparent. This condition is due to the immune system attacking the hair follicles which results in hair loss.
Traction alopecia is caused by wearing your hair in a particularly tight hairstyle for too long and too often which results in hair loss.
Trichotillomania is a condition where they cannot resist the urge to pull out their hair, from their head, eyebrows or eyelashes.
This is when hair loss is sudden across the scalp. There are many factors that can cause this such as improper nutrition, severe stress, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, genetics, age, major surgery or even poisoning.
At Anthony James Hair Salon in Halifax, our experts will assess whether you are suitable for treatment before explaining the process, timings, price and after care involved.  We can also offer advice and suggest products which could help reduce your hair loss.
